The classic briki for Greek coffee

Good Greek coffee comes down to gentle heat and a thick kaimaki on top. This Fissman briki pairs an 18/10 stainless steel body with a multi-layer capsule base that heats evenly, and a black Bakelite handle that stays comfortable while you brew. The drip-free spout pours cleanly, the handle has a hanging hole for storage, and the whole pot goes in the dishwasher.

How to make Greek coffee

  1. Measure one cup of cold water per person into the briki.
  2. Add one heaped teaspoon of Greek coffee per cup, and sugar to taste: none for sketos, one for metrios, two for glykos.
  3. Stir well, then heat on low. Don't stir again.
  4. Watch the kaimaki rise. Take it off the heat as it reaches the rim, before it boils.
  5. Pour slowly into each cup so everyone gets some foam, and let the grounds settle for a minute.

FAQs

What size briki do I need?

The 530ml suits one or two people. The 680ml is the everyday family size, and the 810ml is best when you have guests over.

Is Greek coffee the same as Turkish coffee?

They're brewed the same way, in the same kind of pot, with very finely ground coffee. The difference is mostly the coffee blend and the name. A briki makes both.

Does it work on an induction cooktop?

Yes, the base has an induction layer. Because brikis are small, some induction cooktops need the pot centred fully over the ring before they switch on. If yours still doesn't detect it, an induction adapter plate solves it for all small pots.

Does the handle get hot?

The handle is Bakelite, a heat-resistant material, so it stays comfortable to hold while the coffee brews on the stove.

How do I clean it?

Rinse out the grounds while the pot is still warm, then wash by hand or pop it in the dishwasher.
